Sound Bytes Made SImple

If you get into website design sooner or later you are probably going to need to deal with sound clips or some type of audio. Audio editing can be very complex. Some of the commercial software can run into the tens of thousands of dollars. For most of us though we only require something simple that can convert audio files from one format to another and perhaps do a little clipping and merging of audio files. Audacity just happens to do all of those things and the cost is FREE!

Audacity is available for download from the official website. You can check it out here: Free Audio Editor.

This free audio editor works on Windows, Mac and GNU/Linux. It is full featured and doesn’t need a whole lot of horse power to run. Check out some of the features:

  • Record sound and audio live.
  • Convert your old records and  tapes into CDs.
  • Supports Vorbis, MP3, WAV, Ogg or AIFF files.
  • Mix, copy or combine audio together.
  • Pitch and speed changes.
  • See list of all the great features.

The Audacity website also has links to a whole host of resources to get you started with sound editing. There are tutorials for beginners and advanced. There is also a tips section that has some valuable information pertaining to audio hardware.

Currently there is a new beta verion out with a bunch of new features.
